Traffic management in smart cities is becoming a challenge with the rise in the number of vehicles. Intelligent Traffic Management can help in making the traffic flow smooth.
With the population of the cities growing, it is becoming
important to manage the resources efficiently. An example can be given of the
road infrastructure that is already overburdened with traffic. Intelligent
Traffic Management has become a necessity for us. NEC
India has developed Adaptive Traffic Systems that aim at reducing the
hassles for the common man while using the roads.
A sustainable city can use the Adaptive Traffic System to
streamline the traffic in a city. Available with a number of features, they
provide authorities with real-time alerts to handle incidents that can cause
traffic snarls. The system uses sensors to provide feeds to the command and
control center.
An adaptive traffic
system helps in the synchronization of traffic signals to reduce the
possibility of a traffic jam. The traffic flow, as a result, can become
smoother. Real-time actionable insights provided by camera sensors help in
dealing with emergencies and disasters.
The Intelligent Traffic Management System in Saharanpur, one
of the 100 cities being developed as a smart city, will be designed to
integrate Traffic Sensing Cameras along with Adaptive Traffic Control Systems.
These cameras also help the authorities in reducing the
incidents of traffic violations. They are equipped to detect Red Light
violations. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is used to issue
e-challans to the violators. Other violations like triple-riding and
over-speeding also get logged in.
An ITMS platform uses a command & control center to
process the feeds from the traffic-sensing cameras. This helps the authorities
to dispatch emergency services and suggest detours to divert traffic from the
affected area.
