MAKING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE WORK FOR CITIES

Artificial Intelligence can go a long way in making the services in a city more reliable. Smart City solutions that use AI can open up immense possibilities, including security, cleanliness, better traffic, etc.

Given the challenges a city is facing, smart city solutions are being developed. These solutions are using artificial Intelligence and data analytics to the hilt. One of the IT companies that is at the forefront of using AI and data analytics in smart city solutions is NEC India.

A growing emphasis today is on developing a data economy, thereby making AI and data analytics more relevant than ever. Aadhaar, a Digital ID system, is an apt example of how data is gainfully used in providing benefits to citizens. The Digital ID system has helped to maintain the biometric data of all the citizens on servers. But the possibilities of AI and data analytics are virtually endless.

Making cities more livable and sustainable is possible with AI because it enables efficient use of resources. A better quality of life for the residents is possible because AI solutions help in traffic control, reducing congestion, and enhancing security through advanced behavior detection technology.

In cities many people especially elderly and girls go missing. AI solutions can help in tracking them. By incorporating the Automated Facial Recognition System (AFRS), authorities can facilitate the efficient sharing of information, aiding in crime prevention, solving cases, and locating missing persons.

Solid Waste Management System helps in preparing analytical reports of cleanliness based on the data combination of vehicle movement and reading of RFID Tags on waste bins. Apps can use AI to digitally affirm the state of toilets. Grievances about cleanliness can be registered using these Apps.

The authorities have faced challenges in taxation as individuals often evade it, resulting in a shortfall of funds. However, AI can offer solutions to governance issues. By implementing AI in the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), tax evasion can be effectively tracked and analyzed. Furthermore, AI can be applied in e-Governance to streamline processes and reduce the burden of compliance.
